My spiritual experience at Root Institute, Bodhgaya

Root Institute is a spiritual centre in the Tibetan tradition located in Bodhgaya, India where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Its located in Bodhgaya which is considered to be one of the holiest places in the World. I went there in the month of January 2023 to spend some quiet time in the tranquil ambiance there and the experience I had was deeply touching and transforming. I would like to share this experience with our dear readers and motivate them to undertake journey to this spiritual centre.

We all human beings have the seed of spirituality within us. The seed needs a conducive environment to blossom and grow. The mundane environment around us in the world keeps the seed hidden and dormant but when we travel to a spiritually favorable environment, it begins to blossom. So once in a while its recommended to travel to any spiritually sustaining place feasible for us and plunge into the sweet and pure tranquility it has to offer. My experience at Root Institute has been really incredible and deeply transformative. The benefits which I got from my stay there are objectively:-

    • The peaceful ambiance there has a deep impact on the racing mind taking it into deeper states of silence. Getting into silent stages mentally is a heavy struggle in the mundane environment but it became quite easy in the pure environment of that place.

    • Meeting many like minded people who are also looking for something similar and moving towards the same goal. It strengthens our conviction in the path and inspires us to walk further.

    • Feeling an expansion of heart. The city life where everyone plays his music for himself makes us immensely self cherishing and individual goal driven but contrast to that the pure spiritual atmosphere there where we see people working for the benefit of others makes our heart expansive and wide sowing the seeds of benevolence and altruism in it.

    • The philosophy sessions offered at the spiritual centre are very intellectually arousing. It sharpens our ability to reason and strengthens our sense of logic too. It fills us with wisdom and we are able to cultivate spiritual perception.

    • Last but not the least it strengthened my bond with my inner being and my Divine Master. The clarity and wisdom which we receive there helps holistically.

After I returned I could feel a change in my state of mind and also motivations. It made me more aware and alert of my mental state. It gave my spiritual practice a boost. I am very grateful and fortunate to have had an opportunity to go there and come back with a lovely experience.

I would like to suggest our dear readers to undertake small trips to any spiritual place where they feel resonance towards. Trust me its worth the effort!!

Embracing the transitions in life with faith

“Change is the only thing that is constant in life.” We, as humans, undergo changes in our day-to-day lives. We experience change as a moment of unsettling and transition into something new. The intensity of change could be a major one whereby we undergo structural and systemic change transforming from one phase of life to another. This pushes us out from a static state of existence to a dynamic ever-changing being. We do feel a certain level of discomfort while going through these transitions, but having faith and hope in our hearts does make a great difference.  Let's take a moment to consider the underlying reasons why a change might be uncomfortable. Changes can represent transience and mortality. One significant transition in human existence that we all go through is death. Every change is a small death in itself, whereby the old dies and the new is born. As humans, we have a tendency to cling to life and have attachment to the existing state, I suppose this is one of the root...

Breath: An anchor to the present moment

Breath is the essence and elixir of human life. As long as we breathe, we are alive. Breathing is fundamental to our existence. In today’s fast-paced, busy world, we are often unconscious of our “breath.’’ Our minds tend to be more active in the present age when there are plenty of distractions around us. We all experience our minds racing amidst the memories of events in the past and towards the uncertainties and anxieties of the future. Our breath can play a crucial role in aligning us back to the present moment when we get astray in the spiral of thoughts. In both Buddhist traditions and contemporary meditation, focusing on the breath is recommended as a key technique for gaining mental serenity. When was the last time we took a deep breath and connected to something that was lurking so close? “Breathing mindfully” can be a great stress buster and mood booster. This practice will gradually eliminate mental distractions and make us focused individuals. A small step can bring a great ...
